Michigan State University’s Student Builders and Contractors Association recently visited AIS Equipment for a behind the scenes tour of the operations that occur within the facility. The 44 attendees were able to explore the roles of each department, including Field Service Dispatch, Training, Corporate Parts, Used Parts, Reconditioning, Paint, sales Lot, Customer Service Shop, Undercarriage and the Welding shop.

Following the tour, the students enjoyed dinner and listened to a presentation by Dave Terbeek, Vice President of AIS.   He provided information regarding an overview of the industry, as well as the characteristics that make up AIS and Contractor’s Rental Co.

“I think the most interesting thing of the tour must've been the amount of people that AIS uses to dispatch, maintain, and repair their equipment. AIS seems to be a very customer focused business that uses professional people to help all the building professionals that use their equipment.” SBCA President, Tom Lyons, said. “It was also fun to jump on a backhoe and excavator to experience the handling and use of the equipment. I think all of us found that we are not skilled in any way and should leave it to the professionals.”

This event enabled Construction Management students from Michigan State University to get face-to-face interaction with various types of AIS employees and learn about the work that is put forth to successfully run the oldest “Michigan Owned and Operated” heavy equipment company in the state. As a customer-oriented family owned business, AIS is always proud to serve the community!
