Congratulations to Seth Earl, winner of Michigan Farm Bureau’s 2015 Young Farmer Discussion Meet December 2nd at MFB’s 96th Annual Meeting held at the Amway Hotel in Grand Rapids, MI. AIS was proud to award a $2,000 cash prize to Earl in recognition of his achievement.

The Discussion Meet is a contest where participants freely discuss current topics affecting the agriculture industry while practicing their public speaking and analytical skills. The idea of the discussions is to reinforce the importance of real conversation and civil dialogue. Young farmers between the ages of 18-35 that are interested in making a difference face off in formal discussions.

Regional level competitions were held across the state to determine the 31 participants that were chosen to take part in round 2 of the contest, 16 faced off in the semifinals. The field was cut to just 4 for the final discussion meet.

The discussion topics addressed current issues affecting the agricultural community:

Earl will represent the State of Michigan in the national-level Young Farmer and Rancher Discussion Meet at the 97th Annual American Farm Bureau Federation Convention January 9-13, 2016 in Orlando, FL. The winner of the national-level discussion wins their choice between a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado or a 2015 GMC Sierra pickup. The runner-up receives a Case IH Farmall tractor, a $2,500 cash prize and $500 in STIHL merchandise.

The Earl family is from Ludington, MI. Seth's in-laws own a large dairy operation in Mason County. His wife, Lyndsay works for Michigan Milk Producers. They have a 2 year old daughter, McKenzie and a child on the way.

Good luck and congratulations to the Earl family.
